Hans Hoffman


While watching the video Eames: The Architect and the Painter. The German born American abstract expressionist had opened a art school at 1930s Ray Eames was studying under Hoffman at the time and the student remembered Hoffman would look at their work tear it from the middle move the two pieces up and down. “Suddenly a static piece of work became dynamic” recalls one of the student. Ray learnt the how to move objects in painting freely and create beautiful tensions to a painting.
